"This is the story of a girl using her dreams to run from reality, a boy who dreamed of escaping his, and the nightmares they found lurking in the shadows." |
Plot Summary/Synopsis
Keira has been looking for something more, hungry for change. For her, just settling is no longer enough. That all changes the night Keira has a strange encounter with a boy in the woods. Was she really dreaming or did Keira somehow stumble out of the dream and into the waking? She can't seem to decide between the two as the memories fade. Keira's enchanting stranger and others soon start haunting not only her dreams but also her waking hours, hiding in the shadows when they think she isn't looking. Not to mention that trying to find the line between sleep and awake is becoming more and more difficult. Confusion keeps her guessing whether or not this could be her way of escaping reality, or if it's something ill-natured drawing Keira away from her life and into the surrounding darkness? As the shadows creep up around her, Keira is forced into a hidden world where if she isn't careful, she could become lost herself. The choice between reality and dreams is hers and hers alone. What path will Keira follow into the moonlight?
Setting
Update: So like I've previously stated, I have decided on trying out some names for my fictional world within Moonstruck as well as using actual places too. Keira's hometown will be Birchwood, NY in the town of Thunder Hills, which will also be the name of the high school. Both are fictional. Avery comes from an actual town in Norway called Trolla, which is on the Trondheimsfjord and later moves to Norway, MI before finding himself in Birchwood.
Inspiration
Well where does one start when searching for ideas. To be honest I had mulled over a few quick thoughts before finally deciding upon a direction to go in. The process was pretty simple compared to most. I was laying on my bed in my college apartment simply thinking about what I would want to read that hasn't been written before, and the types of novels that I fall in love with. Genre ideas quickly developed from there, since I usually stick to Young Adult, Paranormal Romance and Fantasy when choosing books, but I do enjoy some of the classics. I tend to search for things involving mostly faeries, but I will admit I can get into stories with angels, sirens/mermaids, nephilim, werewolves, and yes even vampires when the mood strikes me. But I also have to admit that I'm very picky when it comes to those types of books. Since folklore has always been a love of mine, I decided to explore some Scandinavian tales and expand upon one of my favorite characters in these stories. With some digging I found an interesting origin story involving faeries in general, but more specifically the race of Norwegian Huldre. Things really took off from there and I believe I have found myself writing something truly great and unique to what's out there!
